Brush up on the local history by visiting the large collection of historic homes, castles and manors within the area, including the National Trust owned, Beningbrough Hall, an Italian-inspired property, surrounded by eight acres of formal gardens, as well as the Newby Hall & Garden and Allerton Castle, each one promising to be an exceptional day out.

The city of York is also within striking distance, boasting over 2000 years of history to explore, from the ancient walls built by the Romans to the Viking remains JORVIK.

After a morning of meandering the independent shops, be sure to spend some time marvelling at the architecture of York Minster, discover the 1,000-year-old artefacts at the JORVIK Viking Centre before braving the York Dungeon to uncover 2000 years of history through immersive sets and unique stories.

The town of Harrogate is also well-worth exploring with its great eateries and cafés including the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, as well as the attractions of the Royal Pump Room and the Valley gardens.
